CA Flex Board Design Guide and What ICAI Allows on Your Chartered Accountant Office Sign Board
Most CA offices order the sign board last. The cabin is ready, the files are on the shelves, and someone says, “just get a CA flex board printed, it’ll be up in two days.” It goes up with the firm’s own monogram in the corner and a neat line listing every service the practice offers. Both of those can land a member in trouble.
A chartered accountant office sign board isn’t treated like a shop board. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India restricts what practising members display, because the profession sees loud promotion as solicitation. The rules are short, though. Know them, and a board that looks sharp and stays compliant is not hard to get right.
What ICAI allows on a CA name board
In short, a practising chartered accountant can show their name with “Chartered Accountant”, or a firm can show its registered name with “Chartered Accountants”, plus the common CA logo. A firm’s own logo is not allowed. ICAI’s ethics FAQs say a firm logo on a signboard is prohibited, and so is printing the firm name in any way that works like a monogram.
Size matters too, but there’s no number in feet. ICAI asks for a board of reasonable size, and the revised Code of Ethics added visibility and illumination as factors in judging that. A board readable from the road is fine. One that swallows the building front invites questions.
What goes on a CA firm name board
- The member’s name with “Chartered Accountant”, or the firm name with “Chartered Accountants”, spelt exactly as registered
- The common CA logo, taken from official ICAI artwork
- A small floor number or arrow if the office is hard to find (our practical suggestion, kept discreet)
What to leave off a chartered accountant office board
- Your firm’s monogram, stylised initials or custom logo
- The ICAI emblem with the Garuda, which ICAI has clarified can’t be used on a standalone basis
- Service lists like “GST, ITR, audit, company registration”. They read as promotion, and most careful firms skip them.
- Extra titles such as “Tax Consultant” next to your name
- Banner-style displays. ICAI’s Ethical Standards Board has said banners with a CA firm’s name aren’t permissible.
Old CA logo or the new one?
ICAI has used two versions. The older one shows blue “CA” letters with an upside-down green tick. For its 75th anniversary, ICAI launched a “CA India” logo with tricolour letters and two inverted ticks, along with separate usage guidelines. Download the current artwork from ICAI instead of copying it off another firm’s board. Redrawn logos are where colours and proportions go wrong.
Is a CA flex board allowed?
Yes. The ICAI guidance deals with what the board says, its size and how it’s presented. It doesn’t name a material, so a CA flex board is fine when the content follows the rules above.
Whether flex is the right pick is another matter. Flex is printed PVC stretched over a metal frame. It’s cheap and quick. But in Kolkata we regularly see flex faces fade and sag after a couple of monsoons, and a washed-out board outside an audit practice doesn’t say much about attention to detail.
Material | Look | Suits |
Flex, lit or non-lit | Flat print | New practices, temporary offices |
ACP with acrylic letters | Clean, raised lettering | Ground-floor offices facing the road |
Acrylic panel | Glossy, sharp edges | Lobbies and building directories |
3D letters on the wall | Premium, no backing panel | Established firms with a good facade |
For a street-facing office, an outdoor sign board in ACP with raised acrylic letters will outlast flex by years. Firms inside commercial complexes usually prefer a glossy lobby panel, which is where our Acrylic Sign Board Kolkata work comes in. And with a clean wall to work on, the raised lettering used in a letter 3d logo build looks crisp, as long as it carries only the firm name and the common CA logo.
CA board design tips that keep it professional
ICAI’s rules are about restraint. Good CA board design works with that instead of fighting it.
Colours
Blue and white is the safe pairing, since it echoes the CA logo. Navy with white letters reads well from across a road. Gold on maroon is popular too, though it can drift toward a jewellery-shop look. One accent colour is plenty.
Font and letter size
Stick to a plain sans-serif or a simple serif. Script and tightly condensed fonts are hard to read from a passing auto. A rough signage rule gives about 10 feet of comfortable reading distance per inch of letter height, so a name read across a 40-foot road wants letters close to 4 inches tall.
Lighting
Because the revised Code counts illumination when judging a board, lighting isn’t off the table. Keep it modest. Front lit signs with white LED modules keep the name readable after dark without shouting. Skip blinking, colour-changing or scrolling effects, which look exactly like the advertising the rules discourage.
Several partners, one board
Five partners’ names on a facade gets crowded fast. Many firms keep only the firm name and CA logo outside, then list partners on a smaller chartered accountant office board inside the entrance. It’s tidier, and cheaper to update when a partner joins or leaves.
Before your CA flex board goes to print
- Name and designation spelt exactly as registered with ICAI
- Only the common CA logo, from official artwork
- No monogram, ICAI emblem, service list or slogan
- Size suits the frontage and the reading distance
- Lighting steady, with no animation
The compliance call is yours to make, so if something feels borderline, check the ICAI Code of Ethics, Volume II or ask your regional council before ordering.

FAQs
Can a CA put a flex board outside the office?
Yes. A CA flex board is allowed if it shows only the permitted details and is a reasonable size. The content matters to ICAI, not the material.
Can I add my firm’s logo to a CA name board?
No. ICAI prohibits firm logos and monograms on signboards. The common CA logo is the only one you can use.
Are LED or glow sign boards allowed for chartered accountants?
Lit boards aren’t ruled out, since the revised Code of Ethics treats illumination as one factor in judging a board. Keep the light steady and avoid flashing or scrolling effects.
What size should a chartered accountant office sign board be?
There’s no fixed size. ICAI asks for a reasonable one, so match the board to your frontage and viewing distance, and don’t let it dominate the building.
Should a CA firm name board list services like GST or ITR filing?
Best not. A service list reads as promotion, which ICAI treats as solicitation by practising members. Your CA name board only needs to tell clients who you are; they’ll learn what you do once they walk in.
